SPRING 2021

Salutations, I'm Charles! I’m serving as the Chapter President of SHRM because SHRM has shown me how to love SJSU. If it wasn’t for SHRM’s welcoming community and the family feel, I wouldn't be at SJSU. SHRM is always supportive of each other and it’s a support system that continues past graduation. My goal is to continue that sense of community and make SHRM at SJSU a place where everyone can have fun and learn during the pandemic. As you get to know me, you will find that I love basketball, anime, and traveling. I prefer eating cookies and cream ice cream over mint chocolate chip, and my team knows that.

SHRM is a club that made me feel welcome and accepted from the beginning. Being an officer was something I wanted to do because I wanted to be a part of a team and something bigger than myself. Gaining confidence and proving to myself that I could take on this role was very important to me. My goal during this semester is to make SHRM as fun and enjoyable as the officers did for me when I was a member.

Hi everyone! As a senior majoring in Human Resources, I’m super excited to be a part of the officer board this semester. I joined SHRM last spring because I wanted to gain more experience networking with professionals and also make more friends within the business department. Through SHRM I’ve learned so much to help me not only in my career but in my personal life as well, and I’ve met so many cool people in the process. My goal this semester is to help create a more inclusive community for SHRM members and make events more interactive. In my free time I like hiking, window shopping, trying new restaurants, and making random tik toks.

Hey everyone! I’m excited to be the Executive Vice President of SHRM at SJSU! After joining SHRM in the Spring of 2019, I was immediately welcomed by the open and inclusive environment that the former officers and members had created. I wanted to become a SHRM officer because I want to able to help this organization continue to grow by strengthening the sense of community that we have here. My goal for this semester is to improve the inclusivity of the club and ensuring an even more welcoming community. Once you get to know me, you’ll find out that I love all sorts of things, from basketball, food, and anime to technology, music, and cars.

Joining SHRM during my sophomore year of college was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The members of the club were incredibly welcoming and supportive, enabling me to come out of my shell. I wanted to become an officer to provide members with the same professional and personal development opportunities that I had as a member as well as give members even more opportunities to grow. During this semester, my goal is to continue to strengthen SHRM at SJSU’s supportive culture and to ensure all members have an enjoyable experience. In my free time I love trying out new restaurants, spending time with friends and family, and playing games on the Nintendo Switch.

Hey Everyone! I joined SHRM in Fall of 2019 and it has been one of my best ongoing college experiences. As a Human Resources Major I was really keen on getting to know more about the HR world and immersing myself in it, and SHRM provided the perfect opportunity to not only involve myself in HR, but also in other aspects of an organization. Everyone I’ve met through this club has been outstanding and they have helped me grow further into the professional I strive to be. This semester my goal is to really help foster and grow our virtual family and I’m super excited to be a SHRM officer this semester!

SHRM at SJSU is my home away from home! When I first joined, I had no idea that this organization would leave such an impact on me, personally and professionally. Since then, SHRM has opened up many doors and pathways for me that I would never be exposed to before. Becoming an officer has brought me lifelong friends, a loving community, and a strong, inspirational team that I know I can always fall back on. This semester, I hope to channel all of this uplifting and positive energy into our Mentorship Program! When I’m not working hard (or hardly working?) on SHRM or schoolwork, I love watching sitcoms & Marvel movies, taking personality tests (and making others tell me their results), and spending quality time with my loved ones!

Prior to joining SHRM, I had only ever attempted to join one or two student organizations at the junior college I attended. I say “attempted” because I ended up not joining due to intimidation. SHRM is the first club I joined where it felt like a family. When attending a SHRM event you can tell that everyone is there to support each other. I chose to become an officer because I wanted to maintain the SHRM at SJSU culture and help it improve, and it is my goal to do just that.

I’m so excited to be a returning SHRM@SJSU officer! (Despite missing the officer photoshoot AGAIN due to the pandemic.) As an Advertising major, I’m a huge advocate for non-HR majors joining SHRM! This organization has taught me valuable professional skills, and helped me grow my confidence. Aside from being VP of Careers, I became the first-ever Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Alpha Omicron Pi - Delta Sigma chapter. Additionally, I intern at DBH Communications. Despite having a lot on my plate, I will always make time for this organization. Lastly, I hope my rhyming motto will catch on with the officers: “I love what I do for SHRM at SJSU!”

I joined SHRM my second year of college and it was the best decision I made in college. Every member pushed me to be the best version of me I can be professionally and academically. I wanted to become an officer because I want to provide new members with the same amazing experiences I received. This semester my goals are to unite our club socially and offer activities that highlight our diversity. I am beyond excited to work hard and continue making SHRM the inclusive and supportive club that it is. In my free time I love going thrift shopping and finding new music. I also love attempting to understand astrology (i’m getting better at it!).
